Cyprus is a small island in the Mediterranean Sea and is situated in the crossroad of three continents: Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Cyprus is famous for its lovely Mediterranean climate which attracts tourists throughout the year. Winters in the island are relatively mild with snowfall mainly in the Troodos Mountains while summers are hot and sunny.

It is built over the ancient kingdom of Kition and its history goes back to the Mycenaean era. It was also the second home of St. Lazarus, who lived here after his resurrection. The impressive Church of St Lazarus in the center of the town was built in the10th century over the saint’s tomb and it is a famous example of Byzantine architecture. Just outside Larnaca there is the salt lake near the mosque of Hala Sultan Tekke, where pink flamingos and other migratory birds find shelter.


It is the island’s second largest city, famous for its carnival, wine festival and holiday resorts. It spreads out between two ancient city-kingdoms, Amathous to the east and Kourion to the west, which are considered two of the most spectacular archaeological sites in Cyprus.According to tradition, the Medieval Castle in the old part of town in the middle Ageswas the place where Richard the Lionheart and Berengaria of Navarre were married, and now houses the Cyprus Medieval Museum.


It is famous for its archaeological findings and so UNESCO has put the town on its World Cultural Heritage List.Also, Cyprus is called “the island of Aphrodite”, the goddess of love and beauty according to the Greek mythology. ‘Petra touRomiou’ is the birthplace of Aphrodite, who was said to have arisen from the waves. Evidence from the Roman Period is found in the famous floor mosaics within the archeological park and the Tomb of the Kings which are worth visiting.


It is the capital of the island with its characteristic busy and modern life. It is the only divided capital in the world due to the Turkish Invasion in Cyprus in 1974. The city center is its old quarter, a jumble of narrow streets with sandstone buildings with overhanging balconies and inner courtyards. Mosques and palm trees give it an oriental atmosphere, while a beautifully restored pedestrian precinct, LaikiYeitonia, has craft shops, cafes and taverns.The best collection of archaeological artifacts is found in the museums.

It is famous for its golden sandy beaches that buzzed with life before 1974. Nowadays, Ayia Napa and Protaras are full of life especially in the summer time, because of their sandy beaches, nightlife, restaurants, fan parks, shops, water sports and many more. The Sea Museum, “Thalassa”, in Ayia Napa, has a replica of trading ship which sank off the coast of Kyrenia in the 4th century BC.Ayia Napa and Protaras are the most favourable holiday destinations of both Cypriots and the tourists.
